PV Sindhu is a Badminton player from India who is the first Indian woman to win a silver medal at an international competition. Sindhu is the first Indian woman to win a World Championship and the first Indian woman to reach the World Badminton Championship final. P.V. Sindhu took home the bronze medal in the Tokyo Olympics 2021, bringing honor to her country.

Family and Childhood
 

P V Sindhu was born into a Jat family with a Telugu background. PV Raman, Sindhu's father, and P Vijay, Sindhu's mother, are volleyball players. Despite her parents being professional volleyball players, she chose badminton.

When asked about it, her father replied, “Former India badminton player and current coach Pullela Gopichand impacted her very much. N. Chandrababu, the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, honored Pullela Gopichand one day. PV Sindhu was impressed by what she was doing and chose to continue badminton ”.

The All-England Open Badminton Championship was won by Pullela Gopichand in 2001. Sindhu was impressed and determined to pursue a career as a badminton player.

Birth and early life of PV Sindhu

PV Sindhu (Pusarla Venkata Sindhu) was born in a Telugu household in July 1995. PV Ramana and P. Vijaya, her parents, are volleyball players. PV Ramana, PV Sindhu's father, has been honored with the Arjuna Award for his contribution to sports. PV Sindhu was motivated from the age of six to pursue a career in sports.
PV Sindhu completed her early education at Auxilium High School in Secunderabad, Hyderabad, and then went to St. Ann's College for Women in Mehdipatnam, Hyderabad, where she got an MBA degree.

PV Sindhu's parents played volleyball for India at the national level, but she preferred badminton over volleyball. She chose badminton, though, after being inspired by Pullela Gopichand, the 2001 English Open Badminton Champion.

PV Sindhu needed basic badminton training, so she enrolled in Secunderabad's Indian Railway Institute of Signal Engineering and Telecommunication. She learned some of the fundamentals from Mehboob Ali and improved her game.
She enrolled in the Gopichand Badminton Academy, and there she was mentored by Pullela Gopichand.

2014-2016

• She won the Asian Championships after defeating Thai badminton star Busanan Ongbamrungphan in the quarterfinals.
• After losing in the quarterfinals of the Women's Singles at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, she became the first Indian to win two consecutive medals at the BWF World Badminton Championships.
• In 2015, Lee Xuerui was defeated in the Asian Championship and the quarterfinals of the World Championship by Korean player Sung Ji-Hyun. Due to a stress fracture, she had to quit playing for six months in the same year.
• PV Sindhu had a stellar year in 2016, winning the Malaysia Masters Grand Prix gold in the women's singles category despite losing to Scottish champion Kirsty Gilmour.
• She reached the semifinals of the Premier Badminton League after becoming captain of the Chennai Smashers but lost to Delhi Acers.

2017-2018

• The position of Deputy Collector was bestowed on her. In 2017, she made headlines in the India Open Super Series in Delhi, overtaking world number one Carolina. She became the first Indian woman to win the Korea Open by defeating Okuhara of Japan.
• At the Commonwealth Games in 2018, PV Sindhu earned a gold medal in the mixed team event and a bronze medal in the women's singles event. PV Sindhu won four medals in the World Championships, including a silver medal for the second time.
• She brought honor to her nation by winning gold in the BWF World Tour's final season.

2019-2021

• Sindhu's performance in an entire series was purchased by Hyderabad Hunters, and she lost in the semifinals against Mumbai Rockets. Sindhu also lost in the Indian National Badminton Championships to champion Saina Nehwal.
• She lost to Japanese star Akane Yamaguchi after reaching the final of the Indonesia Open in 2019. Chen Yufei became the first Indian player to win a gold medal at the World Championships in 2019, defeating Chen Yufei in the semifinals and Nozomi Okuhara in the final.
• On March 8, 2020, PV Sindhu was awarded BBC Sportswoman of the Year in India.
• Sindhu performed well in the Swiss Open final against Carolina Marin in 2021 but could not win. Sindhu won the All England Open in the same year, defeating Malaysian player Sonia Chiya in the second round and then the quarterfinals, where she fell to Thailand's Pornpawee Chochuwong.

• PV Sindhu participated in the Tokyo Olympics and was a strong contender for the gold medal, however in the semifinals, Chinese player Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei, destroyed India's gold medal dreams 21-18, 21-12.
• PV Sindhu may have been out of competition for the gold and silver medals. Still, she won the bronze medal for India in a tournament conducted on August 1, 2021, in which she defeated Chinese competitor He Bingjiao in straight sets. She was the first Indian to win two gold medals in the Olympics.

• The Government of India honored her with the Arjuna Award on September 24, 2013, for her outstanding achievement in badminton.
• Sindhu received the Padma Shri, India's fourth-highest honor, in March 2015.
