K. Annamalai is an Indian politician and former 2011 batch IPS officer from the Tamil Nadu cadre. He resigned as an IPS officer in 2019 after serving at different locations in Tamil Nadu for a period of eight years. In 2020, he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party prior to which he was a part of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam.
K. Annamalai was born as Annamalai Kuppusamy on Monday, 4 June 1984 (age 38 years; as of 2022) in Karur, Tamil Nadu. His zodiac sign is Gemini. In 2007, he completed a degree in Bachelor of Engineering at PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. In 2010, he earned a PGDM in Business from the Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow. IPS career
In 2010, Annamalai cleared the UPSC Civil Services Examination. Following his selection, he underwent training at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy in Hyderabad, Telangana. In September 2013, he was appointed as the Assistant Superintendent of Police for the Karkala sub-division in Udupi district, Karnataka. He was later promoted to the rank of Superintendent of Police in January 2015 and served in that capacity until August 2016. Annamalai was then transferred to the Chikmagalur district of Karnataka and continued to serve as a Superintendent of Police until October 2018. He was promoted to the position of Deputy Commissioner of Police for Bengaluru South in 2018. However, in May 2019, he resigned from his position citing personal reasons.
Social activism
Annamalai Kuppusamy after resigning from IPS service founded We the Leaders Foundation (WTLF) which is a non-profit organization to improve rural youths leadership skills.
Political career
Annamalai started his political career with the BJP in August 2020 at the party's headquarters in New Delhi in the presence of Muralidhar Rao and L. Murugan. He was appointed as the Vice President of the Tamil Nadu unit of the BJP. As the State Vice-President, Annamalai was part of the committee that negotiated an alliance with the AIADMK in the National Democratic Alliance.
In the 2021 Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly election, Annamalai contested from the Aravakurichi Assembly constituency and secured a vote share of 38.9%, becoming the first runner-up in the constituency. Following the appointment of L. Murugan as a Union Minister, Annamalai was promoted to the position of President of the Tamil Nadu unit of the BJP.
In January 2023, Annamalai was granted Z-category security cover after receiving threats from Maoists and religious extremists, according to an intelligence report.

I want to bring some positive changes to the system.” - In December 2019, K. Annamalai founded an organisation named Core Talent and Leadership Pvt. Ltd. and started working as its Director. In March 2020, he established the an organisation titled ‘We The Leaders Foundation’ and began working as its Chief Mentor. This venture promotes organic agriculture and modern agriculture technology among Indians.
