Guy Albert Deleury is an Indianist , scholar of Marathi literature , writer and translator specializing in India . He was a member of the Society of Jesus from 1943 to 1973.

Biography

He left Marseilles in 1948 2 after his degree in philosophy and settled in India. In 1953, he obtained his doctorate from the University of Poona , in the state of Maharashtra with a thesis on the Hindu pilgrimage of Krishna at Pandharpur  . There he became familiar with Hindu culture . This later inspired his thought and his literary work, which included many works, including a novel 3 . In 1967, he participated in the reception in Poona of a group of French people who came to reinforce their knowledge of Indian culture by immersing themselves in the daily life of the inhabitants of this city 4. He returned to France in 1973 2 after thirty years spent in India. The following year, he left the Jesuit order, and therefore devoted himself to books and programs on the meeting of civilizations
