Early life and education
Kamath was born on September 5, 1986, in Karnataka, India. Kamath dropped out of school after grade 10th and he has no formal degree.
Career
Kamath started his career with a job at a call center while also engaging in equity trading on the side.
In 2006, Kamath became a sub-broker and started his own brokerage firm with his brother Nithin Kamath titled Kamath & Associates.
In 2010, Kamath co-founded Zerodha along with his brother Nithin Kamath. Zerodha provides brokerage services for dealing in stocks, currencies and commodities. In 2019, Zerodha became the largest stockbroker in India. Today, Zerodha has 10 million clients.
Kamath also co-founded True Beacon In 2020, an asset management company that focuses on wealth management for ultra-high net-worth individuals.
Awards and recognition
In 2016, Kamath was honored as one of the Forbes India ‘30 Under 30’ young entrepreneurs.
In 2018, Kamath was featured in Forbes India’s inaugural 'Tycoons Of Tomorrow' list, which recognised 22 young achievers in the fields of business, acting and sports.
Kamath was listed on IIFL Wealth and Hurun India's 40 & Under Self-Made Rich List in 2020.
In 2022, Kamath also became the youngest individual to be featured in the Edelgive Hurun India Philanthropy List.
In 2023, Kamath made it onto Forbes' billionaires list for 2023 with a net worth of approximately $1.1 billion and was ranked at 2405.
